Folks,

For the last 1,367 consecutive days, (3.75 years), I have gotten up at 4:00 each morning to write a new question for ChevelleHistory.com.  I'm going to be away for a while to supplement my Chevrolet Division document collection and to do research for a book. I will be back when my research is complete.

                                                                                                                        Thanks,

                                                                                                                        Tom Wilson

New Tom Wilson's Chevelle History ©  facts were presented each day. The facts are based upon primary research sources from General Motors Corporation and Chevrolet Division. These sources include original company documents, pre-production photographs and models, and advertisements which were created during the muscle car era.  Daily facts are not archived; however, most  will reappear once each year.

Series which have been presented on Tom Wilson's Chevelle Trivia © and Tom Wilson's Chevelle History ©:

Chevy Girls, a series.  Enduring beauty and endless spirit from Chevrolet Division advertisingA historical look at how Chevrolet Division's use of ladies in Chevelle advertising went from conservative in the 1964 model year to wild in the middle of the muscle car era, only to contract when the Chevelles themselves became the wildest.

Chevelle Stealth Options, A Series
During the muscle car era, some Chevelle options appeared and disappeared without warning.  Chevrolet Division introduced features long after the new cars were introduced and well into the run of each model year. Some of these features were successful and remained into later model years, others were quietly withdrawn. This series tracks those unpredictable features and options.

Your Chevelle's Paper Trail
Chevrolet Division built your Chevelle to the specifications which your dealer sent to the factory. During the muscle car era, at least sixteen separate documents were generated to track your order and to follow your newly constructed Chevelle. While few, if any, of your dealer and factory documents can be found, an awareness of their existence and function can enable you to recognize them and to appreciate their significance to your Chevelle.

Chevelle Surf Wagons, A Series
The Beach Boys were right, after all. Chevelle station wagons are highly prized by those who understand that our quality of life is mysteriously woven into crashing waves and the warmth of the sun.
Aggressive V8 power, acres of interior space and pure American styling are perfect for long sunny days and longer summer nights. (chevelle)

Chevys …and the Folks Who Loved Them is a daily look at that special relationship between folks and their Chevrolets and Chevelles. Snapshots from old photo albums capture the joy of Chevys and their friends.

The Chevelle Brochures, a series.  Did cultural differences dictate the content of Chevrolet dealer brochures?  A comparison of Chevelle brochures which were designed for differing markets.

A Visual History of Chevrolet Dealership Design, a series.  A look at Chevrolet dealerships and how their designs have evolved.  A different dealership is shown each day.

Chevelle Police Cars, a series.  A survey of special police car options for the rarest of the Chevelle line.

The Chevelle Tapes, a series.  During the muscle car era, most dealership owners were able to personally attend the formal Chevrolet new car introduction ceremonies. For those dealers, and the rest of the dealership personnel who were not invited to travel to the formal introduction celebrations, Chevrolet Division introduced the new year's Chevelles by filmstrips and recorded audio presentations.

Tom Wilson's 1% Chevelles, a series. These Chevelles are rare because they were built with features common to less than one percent of the model year's total production.

Tom Wilson's Guide to Chevelle Research Sources © , a series.  How to find the original General Motors and Chevrolet Division documents which are the key to your muscle car's authentication and verification. Each original document is pictured with links to its Table of Contents, an Index or a description of the information which is found within.

The Year the Muscle Car Era Ended, a series.  When the muscle car era ended in 1972, the cost of used muscle cars fell dramatically to a level which we, as purchasers, would relish today. Powerful engines had fallen victims to high insurance rates and government pressure against General Motors. The used car prices reflected here are based upon the NADA, National Automobile Dealers Association, estimates for March, 1972, and are adjusted to today’s dollars by comparison to the current Consumer Price Index. (chevelle)

The Chevelle Brochures, a series.  An examination of the Chevelle dealer brochures from model years 1964-1972.

The Road to the El Camino and Sprint, a series. How the pre-1959 truck designs and advertising themes from GM and Chevrolet evolved into two extremely versatile vehicles.

Chevelle Tools, a series.  A look at tools which General Motors' Kent-Moore developed to service Chevelles.

The Well-Accessorized Chevelle, a series.  Genuine Chevrolet optional equipment which buyers could order to customize their Chevelles.  These items were available from the factory and Chevrolet dealers during the muscle car era.

Chevrolet dealer information and memorabilia. Reader response has been strong to pictures of vintage or unusual Chevrolet dealerships. There is also interest in how Chevrolet dealerships operated on a daily basis during the muscle car era and how the dealers interacted with Chevrolet Division and the General Motors Corporation.

Chevrolet factory and United Auto Workers documentation and memorabilia. Reader reaction has been strong for this category.  It includes GM factory rules and regulations and UAW agreements and history during the period of 1963 through 1972.

The Library of Chevrolet Division Technical Documents: GM and Chevrolet Division Research Sources.  Readers have been interested in where I have found the authority for the questions and answers which appear at Tom Wilson’s Chevelle Trivia © I will discuss reference sources, explaining what the GM or Chevrolet document is and what information it contains.

Authentic GM and Chevrolet advertising will be used to show the subtle distinctions between particular model year styles and what accessories were available.  Comparisons of specific ads will demonstrate how GM and Chevrolet changed their advertising to match marketing needs.  Original advertisements show the initial introductions of Chevrolet innovations which later appeared on Chevelles.

The "Keeping the Line Moving" series details temporary changes which Chevrolet Division made during each model year in order to maintain production of vehicles, accessories and service parts.

The "Chevelle Biographies" series discusses those folks who made substantial contributions to the development and production of the muscle car Chevelles. This includes the pre-Chevelle design contributions of Harley Earl and the marketing decisions of Ed Cole and John De Lorean.

The Chevrolet's Holiday Season series demonstrates how Chevrolet Division and General Motors changed their advertising during the Christmas season.

The Formative Years, a series: Chevrolet advertising reflected the contemporary cultures and youthful passions which eventually merged to create the beauty and strength of Chevelle. The themes used by Chevrolet Division to promote Chevelles were exactly the same as those used to promote the wildly successful 1955-1957 Chevies - which were exactly the same used to sell all earlier Chevrolets.

Chevelle Trivia "Chevellian Myths" and "Chevelle Tribal Lore" discuss those beliefs which many of us held until it was discovered that those widely-held beliefs could not be supported by Chevrolet Division nor United Auto Worker documentation.

Questions are changed daily.  Answers are based upon the documented history of Chevelles of the muscle car era, 1964-1972.

The answers to these Chevelle trivia questions are based upon primary research sources from General Motors Corporation and Chevrolet Division . These sources include original company documents, pre-production photographs and models, and advertisements.
